Action Alert: Call the Legislature to stop Gov. Scott’s Climate Rollbacks
It’s time to make some calls to protect climate policy in Vermont!
Normally, bills go through an extensive process of being worked on in committees before going to the floor of the Senate or House for a vote. Not this time. We believe Senators plan to use a procedural rule to bypass this process and bring a vote directly to the Senate floor to move H.289 and other bills forward that seek to roll back climate policy in Vermont.
We need to make as many calls to the Sergeant at Arms as possible today (Monday Feb. 24th). We want Senators to arrive Tuesday morning to a big stack of pink slips asking them not to rollback climate policy.
Can you take five minutes to call the Sergeant at Arms to leave a message for your legislators?
Here’s how:
Call 802-828-2228 to reach the Sergeant at Arms (open 8:30-4:30). They will take messages Monday and deliver them to Senators when they arrive on Tuesday. If you can’t get through, that’s a good sign–-keep trying!
Tell them you would like to leave a message for your legislators. Here is a sample:
“Hi, my name is _____, calling for Senator _____. I would like to ask them to hold the line on climate progress. Please do not support H.289 or other climate policy rollbacks.
Instead, I hope you will support the progress we do want in our state: prioritize green public transit, weatherization for all, transition to cold climate heat pumps, and community solar; and support the People’s Demands for Flood Resilience as the effects of climate change continue to devastate our state. “
This message will be written down on a pink slip of paper and physically delivered to Senators when they arrive Tuesday morning. Hard to ignore!
If you call, please email Rebecca to help us track our impact!
